Female ginger cats are less common because they must inherit two copies of the ginger gene from their parents to exhibit the orange coloration.

All orange cats are tabbies but not all tabbies are orange. All orange cats are tabbies but all tabbies are not orange. Long haired breeds such as Persians Maine coons and American curl can have the orange tabby pattern.

Another stereotype is media-driven Garfield is irascible and Morris is aloof and finicky. Most ginger cats are solid orange with tabby markings though you may also come across bi-color ginger cats which are typically orange and white. This is not to say they will not seek out a soft lap or chair in which to lie for a nap but for the majority of the day they are extremely active cats.
